Good afternoon. I sure hoe someone has tried this. I am getting more and more questions regarding using windows on the mac. So as the topic title says: Let's hear all about it. what works and what doesn't. How easy is it to use? Thanks.

I am a proud mac user and am happy to see anyone interested in it. Boot Camp is an application that allows you to partition your macintosh to run a copy of windows. It devides a portion of your hard drive, and allows you to dual boot between Mac OS X and windows XP or now Windows Vista. Since Apple provides a set of drivers for windows, you can play windows games and watch videos as if windows was the only operating system installed. This also allows you to install zoomtext or jaws and run them just as well as a normal pc. The only things that do not work yet is windows does not recognise the headphone port on a mac. Therefore, you have to use the built in speaker on your macintosh computer. I also notice that a computer with isight does not have full camera support. You also can not use front row, but I believe that these bugs will be fixed when they release mac os x leapord aka Mac OS X 10.5. We are currently at 10.4.9. There is a program that you can buy called parallels desktop that allows you to run windows while running Mac OS. this program is really good and allows you to use all portions of windows while on OS X. The only drawback is, parallels does not support direct x or any major graphics enhancement. Therefore, I am unsure if Zoomtext or jaws will work. The next version of parallels however will fix this problem. I hope this presents some info for those interested in boot camp and perhaps parallels.

Excellent! thanks mike. that's quite odd the headphone port not being supported. I did hear about the eye sight problem as wel but don't think that really concerns a jaws user. Fantastic summary and thanks so much. Leopard should be out in october and I am hopefull for some major improovments in voiceover. I use a powerbook g4 and love it.
